A wish becomes a desire when you become committed to do something to obtain it. As I learned this I soon discovered this was usually a series of somethings.
Desire lives in our core and resonates at a frequency that does not want to be ignored. We may use the noise of day-to-day existence to drown it out, but it cannot be silenced. Desire will continue to call. It is stronger than any effort to push it down into the depths of our neglected inner being.
Desire Gives Voice
In The Journey of Desire: Searching for the Life We’ve Only Dreamed Of, John Eldredge put another layer of power in how I thought and talked about desire. He helped me see that my desire is good – it was placed in me for a reason.
Desire gives us voice to sing a song of purpose – a song with soul cleansing properties. Desire teaches us how to leverage the power of commitment and reduce the noise of the less important.
We free desire in the present as we open to what is unfolding. As less important things build up they begin to cloud our judgment and become major contributors to small agendas made large by our misdirected emotional investment.
Desire Speaks Truthfully
I cannot remember where I heard it, but I’ve not forgotten the impact of the words: “You are not your opinions.” I was immediately struck by the truth of this statement and found myself personally applying its truth. As I was truthful with myself, I realized some beliefs I professed were nothing more than opinions – and that many opinions were the result of thinking churned by the misguided opinions of others. This drove the stake of accountability into the heart of desire.
Desire speaks only truth. You must trust it as it opens you to what is unfolding. In the light of desire, a present moment consciousness yields awareness as experience is transformed into meaning.
Jeff,
I love reading your books and your honest yet sometimes overwhelming definitions and thoughts on such things as Desire & Intent. As you know I am a very driven individual who will never accept defeat no matter how hard the challenges may get. I suspect my own high expectation for myself will always continue to keep my head above water. Failure or giving up has never been an option for me. I’m just not wired that why. Desire& Intent are two very powerful words in my life. Thank you for being there for me when my head and heart were hanging at their lowest. Even more than that thank you for continuing to be there for all of us who will continue to need you foresight and wisdom.
Making your dreams a reality is hard work. You simply must be consistent in your habits and when you face any challenge in your life or business.
Everything will, one day, be met with some kind of challenge. How you handle that situation is going to determine your future. Each time something blocks you from your dream, you must find a way to go over, under, around, or through it. Your level of determination will dictate how hard you look for that solution and how many obstacles you can encounter. Giving up is simply not an option.
Again thank you for being such a wonderful friend and mentor in my life.
Marcie
