“You can’t push a wave onto the shore any faster than the ocean brings it in.” Susan Strasberg
In my corporate experience, I was blessed to work for many a manager who respected my value for freedom. The times I didn’t work for someone who respected my values, I felt my freedom threatened. And where I did not take appropriate action, I allowed fear to enter my definition of freedom.
The fear took my attention away from other values and I felt forced to place too much attention into defending my freedom. This resulted in ignoring things important to me and in actions of which I was not proud. Those ‘not so proud’ actions were, more often than not, associated with micro-managing someone or something.
Fear can too easily get passed down the conductive coils of management.
I finally learned how to take accountability for my fear when I felt freedom threatened. What value of yours is being threatened when you find yourself in a micro-managing mode? When you are micro-managing, why do you feel the need to do so?
If you can answer these questions accurately, you stand a better chance of resisting micro-managing actions … actions that too easily take you from the intended focus of your Brand.
